Development Centres
The Development Centres continue to play a critical role in the capacitation of project members.
During the period under review, both Illovo and Vuma Development Centres conducted several training programmes in conjunction with the Departments of Labour,
Health, Agriculture and private sector.
The following training programmes were held:
Life skills
Crime and drug awareness
Basic and Advanced sewing
HIV/Aids Home Based Care
Business skills
Computer
CV writing and Job Preparation
Culture and Youth Communication
Beadwork
Hydroponics farming
Poultry
Silk Screening
There was increased emphasis placed on skills training with the youth and as a result,
177 youth of the 261 persons received accredited training at Vuma, whilst Illovo targeted 131 youth of the 202 persons.
The benefits brought about as a result of the training are evidenced in the progression of development displayed by the projects to which the trainees are attached.
In order to harness the full potential of these Centres, the Department has identified the need for greater commitment from the Department of Labour and
other sector departments and the critical role they play in terms of programmes executed.
